St James Park Lake: One of the Picturesque Places in London

A lazy afternoon in the winter with the perfect viewpoint of lush greeneries and the lake in the middle is something we all crave in a trip to London, and St James Park Lake will offer you exactly that. Jostled between 10 Downing Street and Buckingham Palace, the lake is touted as one of the best and most spectacular ones. It is spread across a sprawling area of 23 hectares and is one of the oldest royal parks. The main attraction of the lake is that it forms the perfect setting for bird watching. You can spot exotic waterfowls, black swans, mallards, red-crested Pochards and tufted ducks swimming and bathing in the lake making it a paradise for bird watchers.

The low-arched blue-coloured bridge made of concrete is the third to cover the lake. The first was planned by John Nash and was reinstated with iron in 1857. The present bridge was constructed in 1957. Apart from enjoying the splendid views and panoramic lush green vistas, you can also take a leisurely stroll at the park where you can visit the Mall and House Guards Parade. You can also explore the monuments, statues and fountains as you take a trip to the whole area. As you progress further, you can spot the Queen Victoria Memorial situated in front of Buckingham Palace.

As you enjoy the incredible views of the lake, you can also take refreshments at the two cafes and four refreshment points in the park. If you visit the St James Café, you can go to a large roof terrace from where the views below are stunning. On the other hand, the Storey’s Gate Café is embellished with lots of artwork and artistic masterpieces.
